ELNEC is an acronym that stands for End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium and is an education initiative created by the City of Hope and the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. ELNEC courses are written for nurses by nurses.

ELNEC Communication specifically targets the development and refinement of communication skills crucial for delivering high-quality hospice and palliative care. This course focuses on practical application of communication skills & drills, empowering learners to enhance patient and family interactions while managing pain, symptoms, and care plans across each of the 8 NCP domains.

Now Available: Hospice and Palliative Care Orientation Guide
HPNA is proud to provide the Hospice and Palliative Care Orientation Guide for RNs and APRNs. This guide was designed to provide an eight-week orientation for early-career nurses or those new to the specialty of hospice and palliative care.
Each week features learning outcomes, acknowledges scope and state practice differences, resource recommendations, assignments, and key takeaways. This guide utilizes several HPNA resources, most of which are free for HPNA members.

A Drive to Share Compassionate Care
The Hospice and Palliative Nurses Foundation recently awarded seven outstanding professionals with a 2025 Sandra Lee Schafer Certification Scholarship. Among the recipients was Jannine Bournias, AGNP-C, a proud member of HPNA and a dedicated Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP) from New Jersey.
